c. Jesus has power over demons:
Acts 10:38 "how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
Recently I heard a very fascinating story of Bishop Earthquake Kelly OR. His dad was fourth generation voodoo priest. His entire family on father's side were very much involved in witchcraft. When Kelly was four years old he saw his grandmother doing witchcraft and killing a man right in front of his eyes. As a four-year-old kid he spoke the same sentence (mantra), which his grandmother used, it made him demon possessed. He learned how to practice witchcraft and place curse on people's lives and kill them. He used to see demons. Once he wanted to take cocaine and become high. But his brothers refused to give him drugs because he was very young. One day a demon told him, 'don't worry I will teach you how to become super high.' The demon told him to take 3-4 pills. He said if you take one fourth or half of that pill it keeps one intoxicated for eight days. At the age of fifteen when he took that many pills he died right away and the same demon that told him to take the pills pulled him out of his body and took him down to hell. There he saw torment, fire, screams of people and all kinds of misery. The demon said, 'you were working for us and we used you as a tool to destroy many lives but this was a trap and now you are mine and you are going to live in hell forever and ever.' The demons began to torment him. When he was in this miserable place suddenly he saw that a hand came and began to pull him out of hell fire. He said that while the hand was pulling him out he heard those demons scream, "he is our property" and they were trying to pull him down. The mighty hand of Jesus pulled him out of that pit of fire and demons and He said, "Because of your mother's prayer I brought you out of that hell." His mother was a woman of prayer and she prayed for him constantly.
On another occasion when he was practicing witchcraft and sending demons to destroy people he tried to send demons on believers (true christians). He saw two boys who were born again christians walking on the road. He sent demons to destroy them, but the demons returned back to him saying, 'we can't go near them'. He sent them again and they returned the second time too. He wanted to know why these demons were not able to go near them. He pulled his soul out of his body with the help of Astral projection and he looked at those boys. To his amazement he saw two eight feet big angels walking behind those boys holding big sword in their hand. He then realized why those demons could not harm them. At that time he thought that the boys may be more powerful witchcrafters than what he was. But later on when he got saved and became a child of God he knew that believers are protected by the power of Jesus.
If you are a child of God you are in a privileged position where Jesus sends His angels for your protection. Jesus has power and authority over demons. When He was in this world He cast many demons out from people. No one else has that power. No other religious leaders or gods have that power. Demons knew who Jesus is and they tremble in the name of Jesus. Mat 8:28-29, "When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. And suddenly they cried out, saying, "What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?" Demons knew Jesus is the son of God and He has power to cast them out to the bottomless pit of hell.
d. Jesus has power over death:
1. Jesus had power to give His life and to take it back
2. Jesus has raised many from the dead
3. Jesus Himself was resurrected from the dead
1. Jesus has power to give His life and to take it back:
Bible says that Jesus came into this world for the same purpose. He came to die on the cross so that He could redeem the fallen and sinful humans from the hands of sin and satan. Jesus Himself told several times about His death and resurrection.
Mat 20:28 "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
John 3:14 "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
John 3:15 "that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
Mark 14:58 "We heard Him say, 'I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.'"
Mat 26:21 Now as they were eating, He said, "Assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me."
Jesus not only knew what was coming but He was ready to fulfill God's plan for the lost humanity. It was the greatest love which you cannot see in any.
John 10:17-18, "Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. "No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father."
No one ever died for you and me but Jesus. He prepared the way for us so that we may not lose heaven.
2. Jesus has raised many from the dead:
Jesus holds the power not only over demons but over death too. When His enemies killed Him on the cross the grave could not hold Him. Jesus rose from the dead the third day and came out victoriously. Jesus had defeated death and rose and lives forever and ever. When Lazarus died Jesus said to Martha, (John 11:25-26) "Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. "And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" Jesus not only rose from the dead but He gives the same promise to His children. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead and proved that He is God and He has power over death and life. If you are a child of God, if your sins are forgiven, if your name is written in the lamb's book of life, if you have received forgiveness of sin through the precious blood of Jesus then this promise is for you. This is the glorious hope every believer has that one day our mortal bodies will resurrect and we will be with Jesus in heaven forever and ever.
3. Jesus Himself resurrected from the dead
He not only raised dead Lazarus who was dead for four days but He Himself rose from the dead and defeated death and sin. He is the resurrected savior.
1 Cor 15:54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."
1 Cor 15:55 "O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?"
1 Cor 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.
It proves beyond doubt that Jesus has authority and power over death. He showed all the qualities of God hence He is God. Read Part III here.
